E D I TO R’S N OT E W hen I visited the DAZZLE CANDY boutique on Lake Drive West in Packanack Lake for this issue’s Stylewise, it felt like going home. I could vividly remember when my aunt took me to see Oliver! at the community’s clubhouse many years ago, right across from where Dazzle Candy owner Candice Chuy invites customers to make their own jewelry. Up Osborne Terrace and down the winding Alps Road is my alma mater, DePaul Catholic High School. BRANDON KUI won the state championship in his junior year there. Now a senior, he will be someone to watch. DePaul isn’t alone when it comes to impressive sports programs. Wayne Valley High School’s boys basketball team made it to the Passaic County Tournament final last year. The strides they have made as a team are in no small way thanks to coach JOE LEICHT, who is also the Indian Hills softball coach. Leicht is one of the top two-sport coaches in North Jersey. Meanwhile the girls field hockey team at Wayne Hills is one of the best around. They have won three straight Passaic County Tournament championships under TINA LONDINO. Senior ELIZABETH BYRNE is one of the top field hockey players in 2016-17 for Wayne Hills. All of this talent is the reason I chose to focus on sports for my first issue as editor of Wayne Magazine. Of course the township offers more than sports. Paul Skiadas’ MOMMA’S BOY is a new take on a ’60s burger joint that can be found on Hamburg Turnpike. We also venture out to neighboring communities with our new Town Page. In Kinnelon, we checked out the sandwich bar and custom-made sundaes at MUNCHY’S. We also take a look at Denise Jacobsen’s dream-come-true restaurant, HOUSE OF THAI and CYPRESS ESTIATORIO. Hungry for more? ROBERT’S SCRATCH KITCHEN is a new addition to the Totowa restaurant scene where everything is made from scratch. In a way, this is a fresh start for Wayne Magazine, because it too is under new management. We would love to hear from you.
