LOOKING BACK
On His Honor
Circa 1973
Boy Scouts of America was founded in February 1910, and in February 1912, the first scout troops in
Passaic County were organized during a visit to the area by the British founder of scouting,
Sir Robert Baden-Powell. Dozens of Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs have flourished across
the county since then, with approximately 33 Cub Scout Packs with 889 Cub Scouts in first through
fifth grades; 30 Boy Scout Troops with 558 Boy Scouts; and five Venture Crews with approximately
30 co-ed Venturers in Passaic County currently. The Northern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America
was formed in 1999 when the former Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic Councils consolidated.
Shown here is Wayne native “little” Freddie Bauer receiving his Eagle Court of Honor medal
in 1973 with Burt Griffin, Gene Duval, his parents Fred and Ethel Bauer, and his bother, Tim (far right).
