Message from our Mayor, Steve Maher
Hosting an Event? Send Us an Email!
In the spring of 2017, the Town of Waxhaw conducted our first ever full resident
survey. You told us you were very satisfied with many of the town services. 93% of
you are very satisfied with the quality of life in the Waxhaw. And over 80% of you
rate Waxhaw as a great place to live! If you have an upcoming event that you would like to
include in
the next issue of Waxhaw News, send us an email. We are happy to
promote local events and businesses.
You also were clear on what your priorities are – traffic and roads. And, over 80%
of you asked for a better understanding of our growth. It is not surprising, growth
affects all of our lives and it has been on the mind of Waxhaw for several years! Email:
Over the next several weeks we will explore Waxhaw’s growth. We will provide
background, explain decisions regarding the plans in place today and provide
answers to your ‘FAQ’s’, all to hopefully to educate and answer the questions you
have.
For example, transportation. Three short years ago, we had no real understanding
of the shape our town roads were in. We had yet to implement any ordinances that
would evaluate the impact of development on our roads, prior to development. We
had no state funding committed to our state roads. Worse, the state road projects
that had been identified were in j eopardy of being dropped from consideration.
Because of the efforts of many, working together as a team, in three years Waxhaw
has:
• Adopted a Traffic Impact Ordinance that mandates an assessment of the im-
pact development has on transportation
• Invested over $600K in immediate road improvements
• Completed an assessment of our town roads to prioritize maintenance
• Implemented an annual road and sidewalk maintenance program.
• Received grants of over $4M to improve walkability and intersections.
• Are in the final steps of having $80M in funding committed to be used on
Highway 16.
For a more detailed review of these projects, I encourage you to view page 21 of
this newspaper and the following: http://www.waxhaw.com/399/Planning-Projects
As we explore growth, I encourage you to share
your specific questions so we can all be as in-
formed as possible. We all play a in strengthening
Waxhaw and continue making it a place in which
we’re proud to live.
