The Town is currently in the preliminary engi-
neering phase for the TAP Grant project.
Gresham, Smith and Partners was recently se-
lected to provide engineering and design services
for pedestrian and bicycle facility enhancements
in downtown Waxhaw, N.C. GS&P will design
multi-modal transportation improvements that
enhance safety for all travel modes. The team
will also engage local residents and stakeholders
through town halls and other outreach methods to
support successful outcomes.
“As Waxhaw’s population grows and we see a
steady increase in bicycle and pedestrian traf-
fic, it’s important to improve our transportation
facilities in response to that evolving footprint,”
commented Curt White, Downtown Development
Manager for the Town of Waxhaw. “GS&P’s rich
experience with downtowns, as well as their un-
derstanding of Waxhaw’s historic downtown con-
text, has been a major advantage with the work
we’ve set out to do. We believe these enhance-
ments in our downtown corridor will significantly
improve safety and quality-of-life for residents
and visitors to the Town of Waxhaw.”
GS&P’s work supports the redevelopment of
Waxhaw’s downtown businesses and increased
connectivity between businesses, parks, histor-
ic landmarks and local neighborhoods. Project
elements will include roadway and multi-modal
facility design, landscape and streetscape design,
pedestrian signal design, pavement markings
design, wayfinding measures, work zone traffic
control design, railroad coordination and e nviron-
mental compliance measures.
Gresham, Smith and Partners opened its Char-
lotte, N.C., office in 2015 and expanded its Trans-
portation market to North Carolina in early 2016
to better serve local and regional transportation
clients. The firm is currently providing design
services for Novant Health’s Mint Hill Medical
Center, a new 36-bed community hospital and
medical office building near the border of Char-
