Message from our Mayor, Steve Maher May is always an exciting time for government institutions in the state of North Carolina. Every government institution is going through the statutory process of producing a balanced budget from which to operate. For Wax- haw, the person responsible for producing this balanced budget is the Town Manager. I am delighted to announce that the Town Board has appointed Gregory Ferguson, formerly the Town Manager of Huntersville, NC to lead our grow- ing community and serve as Waxhaw’s Town Manager. Ferguson’s start date is May 1. Interim town manager Leonard Barefoot, who has guided Waxhaw since March 31, will stay on through early May to ensure a smooth transition for Waxhaw during the critical budget process. Our budget is driven by our Town Vision and the Strategic Initiatives that support our Vision. One such initiative is community building and engage- ment. 2016/17 saw an emphasis on modernizing nearly every aspect of our communication tools. Our website for example, provides easy access to an abundance of Town information. And if you have difficulty finding what you are looking for, our staff stands ready to support any request for informa- tion you may have. Yet in governing, there is always more we can do to improve how citizens, Town leaders and Town staff relate to each other as we work together to achieve the Town’s Vision. We know from our recent survey that nearly 70% of you rely on word of mouth – in person or via social mediums – to obtain information. To facilitate that, in the coming weeks you will see new and different methods of communication come into wider use by the Town. Incorporating these methods are designed to help us improve communica- tion across the community, broaden the range of residents with whom we communicate, and will help make the process of communication smoother and more efficient. Keep an eye out for more information on in early May to be posted on our website. We take our ethical and legal responsibility to provide and discuss with our community infor- mation on priorities, programs and activities very seriously. It is a vital piece of the Waxhaw experience and in creating a sustainable future for Waxhaw. A community built on trust, a sense of belonging and community pride. Find us!
