This is the time of the
year when people are
seeking a worthy cause
in which to give their
time and/or money.
Sitting on three acres
on the outskirts of
the town of Waxhaw,
Project 2 Heal offers a
puppy and puppy-lover’s paradise with one
fluffy, cuddly reason
after another to give
big!

It’s a cause near and
dear to the Petrizzos’ lives, as Charlie
endured a series of
unfortunate events in
childhood from a horrific car accident to an
unrelated and equally
traumatic incident
leaving third degree
burns. He experienced
first-hand the miraculous, healing benefits
dogs could provide.

Project 2 Heal owners
Charlie Petrizzo and
his wife Sandy started
the non-profit organization in 2007, and
have dedicated their
lives to breeding labrador retrievers of the
best health, temperament and intelligence
so they can be donated
to service dog organizations helping those
with special needs.

P2H is the only company in the United
States that provides
prototypical puppies
to service dog organizations that don’t have
their own in-house
breeding programs.
Breeding puppies is
the most difficult and
expensive part of the
service dog process. As
Charlie maintains, the
greatest challenge to

service dog organizations is locating quality
puppies for service
work. The industry
pass rate is approximately 48 percent for
a typical puppy, but
P2H’s graduates pass
80 percent of the time.

Their puppies are carefully bred to be quiet
and calm. According
to Charlie, “One-third
of what a puppy will be
come is genetically determined, and the rest
is influenced by the
nurturing, socialization
and training it receives
in its first 12 weeks of
life.” It’s for this reason
that P2H dedicates so
much time and effort
to training and socializing them.
