Waxhaw Happenings September 2019 | Page 2

WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. MANAGER’S MESSAGE Over the last month, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as the Town of Waxhaw’s Interim Town Manager while the town begins their search for a full-time Town Manager. In the month of August, I was able to observe Waxhaw’s lively downtown, bustling community events, and the efforts of town staff and the Board of Commissioners to foster and maintain the strong sense of community in Waxhaw. Among these efforts are the new programs you’ve probably heard about, or even experienced yourself, for residents and visitors of all ages. The Parks & Recreation Department debuted dozens of programming events this year, and they are going strong as we approach the fall and winter seasons. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy, and we hope you will browse the 2019 Fall- Winter Program Guide on page 5. Additionally, Parks & Rec recently partnered with RecDesk to make registering for programs easier than ever. To learn how to set up an account on RecDesk, please visit page 6. While many of the staff in the Parks & Rec Department have been working for the town for several years, it is my pleasure to formally introduce two of these staff members in this issue of Waxhaw Happenings. Amy Merrill has been working for the town for five years and was recently appointed Program Coordinator. Lisa Hoffman, Events Manager, has worn many hats during her eight years of work for the town, and you’ve likely interacted with both Amy & Lisa at one of our many community events. You can learn more about Amy and Lisa on pages 3-4. If you have questions about Waxhaw’s new programs, you can likely find your answer on page 7 of this issue, where we compiled some of the most frequently asked questions about programs. If you don’t, be sure to reach out to Parks & Recreation at [email protected] or 704-843-2195 ext. 278 so they can get you the information you need. I wish Waxhaw’s families all the best with back-to-school season, and I look forward to meeting Waxhaw’s residents and visitors out and about this fall.
