Businesses and residents of The Town of Waxhaw follow an official Signage Ordinance, the Code
Enforcement team is responsible for identifying prohibited signs and signs illegally placed in
the ROW that might obstruct the view of drivers and pedestrians. Last but not least, the team is
responsible to identifying zoning violations.
The Code Enforcement Team is actively out and about on a daily basis and often catches
violations on their own, however they would like the Waxhaw community to know that they are
welcome to contact the Code Enforcement Division with complaints or grievances by calling (704)
843-2195. If you or someone you know is the subject of a violation there is a process in place to
remedy the violation. Someone from Code Enforcement will visit the property in question in an
effort to speak with the owner, inspect the site and identify whether the complaint is legitimate.
If the violation exists and is not corrected, a Notice of Violation is issued listing the violation and
a timeframe to comply. If the violation is not corrected within that timeframe, a Civil Citation is
issued. Next steps include hiring a professional to remedy the violation and the owner is billed for
the service along with a fine. If the bill and fine are not paid, a lien will be placed on the property
(see flow chart below for the detailed process).
The Town of Waxhaw would like to express thanks and gratitude to the Code Enforcement
Division for going above and beyond to improve and protect our property values. If you see their
truck around town, feel free to give them a friendly wave and say hello.
