Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an
enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or
grow a business.
TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE
May typically signals the beginning of summertime, but there’s nothing
typical about this May. As of this publication, Governor Roy Cooper
announced that the North Carolina Stay at Home Order has been extended
until May 8th, schools are closed for the rest of the year.
While this May certainly isn’t typical, our Parks & Recreation team believes
atypical doesn’t mean boring. Events and programs are cancelled through May
31st, but they have been working to bring virtual events and programming
to your home. Our Memorial Day Ceremony, which is usually held at the
Military Wall of Honor in downtown Waxhaw, will be held virtually this year
for the family to watch and reflect together.
Over the last month, we’ve been sharing culinary projects, arts and crafts,
and tutorials you can work on with the whole family. This issue of Waxhaw
Happenings is packed with the most popular at-home programs to date. We
hope you’ll take a minute to flip through, pick one to work on together, and
share it on social media with the hashtag #StayInPlay.
I know a lot of things feel out of control right now, but we can do our best to
stay safe, healthy, and engaged while at home. We encourage you to continue
practicing social distancing, even as restrictions begin to be lifted later this
month. On behalf of Waxhaw staff and the Board of Commissioners, we wish
you health and safety at this time.
