Waxhaw Happenings May 2019 | Page 2

WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE With the school year coming to a close and event season kicking off this month, it is officially summertime in Waxhaw. There’s no better place to spend time with your family than right here in downtown Waxhaw. Our town recently received the 2019 Great Main Street accreditation, and between our bustling restaurants, shops, and downtown park, it’s easy to see why. Read more about this accreditation and our development on page 5. Our most recent Waxhaw 101 civic engagement class graduated from the course at the Board of Commissioners meeting on May 14th. Waxhaw 101 is a great way to get to know Waxhaw staff and learn about the roles of each department in town hall, and will likely return in February 2020. In the meantime, we encourage you to get involved with our town by applying for one of our open Boards & Commissions positions. Read more and find the link to apply on page 4. The town recently hired Kevin Starnes as our town Fire Marshal. Kevin will work with our Planning Department and assist with the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department. We’re excited to have Kevin on staff, and hope you’ll give him a warm Waxhaw welcome if you see him drive by in his Fire Marshal truck. You can learn more about Kevin’s background and his role with the town on page 3. We hope to see you at our next Waxhaw event, Jammin’ By The Tracks, on June 7th!
