WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE It’s no secret that our town is growing. As we grow, we require more connection. This is exemplified by the diverse businesses downtown, the development of parks and recreational spaces, and the town’s efforts to better connect our community. One way the town has achieved that is through our Information Technology department. This team of two has improved the town-wide Wi-Fi, and they run the live streaming system that keeps our public meetings accessible to all residents. You can learn more about them on pg. 3. While in the midst of growth, we aim to uphold the charm and character of Waxhaw. We are pleased to announce that Waxhaw has once again been designated as an accredited Main Street America™ program for meeting rigorous performance standards set by the National Main Street Center and that The American Planning Association (APA) has awarded the Town of Waxhaw a 2018 Great Places Award in the “Great Main Street” category in recognition of downtown’s businesses, events, and amenities! We also recently won a 1st place for Excellence in Communications Awards by the North Carolina City & County Communicators for this very newsletter! This was one of two 1st place awards won by Town of Waxhaw communications. You can read more about these achievements on pages 4-6. Thank you for reading Waxhaw Happenings and staying engaged with town events. Our Spring festival, Kaleidoscope Fest, begins May 19th and is the perfect opportunity to spend time downtown and meet your neighbors in the hub of our community. To learn all that “K-Fest” has to offer this year, check out page 7. Again, thank you for staying engaged with our town and growing with us. Greg Ferguson Greg Ferguson Town Manager [email protected]
