Waxhaw Happenings January 2019 | Page 2

WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE January is the time of year when everyone sets their resolutions and intentions for the new year, and it’s a time when they prepare for changes in the year to come. In 2019, Waxhaw has some fun changes in store. Our Parks & Recreation staff has been hard at work planning new events and making timely changes to some of our existing annual events. Additionally, they are creating seven new programs for residents of all ages. You can read more about these new ways to play in Waxhaw on pages 5-6. Another welcome change is the addition of our newest staff members, Max Hsiang and Mattison Miller, to our Planning Division. Everyone on the Town of Waxhaw staff works hard as a collaborative team, and we’re looking forward to seeing what Max and Mattison accomplish in their new roles. You can learn more about them on pages 3-4. Over the last year or so, our resolution as a town has been to improve transparency between the town and our residents. One of the ways we’ve achieved that is through sharing summaries of each Board of Commissioners meeting with the public for those unable to attend. You can read Mayor Maher’s recap of the January 8th meeting, our first meeting of 2019, on page 7. You can always watch past meetings on our YouTube channel, and we hope you will attend future BOC meetings when you are able. Happy New Year from the Town of Waxhaw!
