WAXHAW LEAF VACUUMING
RECAP AND GOALS FOR 2020
Throughout the fall and winter months of 2019 through January 30th of this year, the
Town of Waxhaw offered a leaf vacuuming program to residents living within the town
limits. The process included the staff working diligently 4 days a week to pick up the
leaves from over 6,300 households. Once the vacuum reached capacity, it would be
driven to the compost site located on Hwy 75, just past the Museum of the Waxhaw’s
- a trip that took an average of 15 minutes depending on where they were coming from
and traffic. Although the program was a success, the excessive rain created more of a
challenge than in years past, as unfortunately, wet leaves cannot be vacuumed.
In an effort to ensure the success of next year’s leaf vacuuming program, the town
would like to remind residents to make sure that vehicles are not parked near the leaf
piles. The Public Services Staff is not permitted to use the vacuum near vehicles due
to the possibility of damage to the vehicles. When there are vehicles parked along the
street, it makes it difficult for the truck and vacuum to pass safely.
The Town of Waxhaw would like to express appreciation to residents for their
patience throughout the leaf vacuuming proces. This is a monumental job and takes
a significant amount of time. The town would also like to thank the Public Services
Department for their hard work and dedication in overcoming obstacles with
equipment and weather along the way.
