Downtown Waxhaw
REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
The Town of Waxhaw was awarded the 2018 Great Main Street Award for their vibrant and
prosperous downtown, and Downtown Development Manager Curt White is looking to build
on that success.
White has been helping the town implement funds from the Transportation Alternatives
Project (TAP) Grant, which was awarded to Waxhaw in 2016. The objective of projects
funded by the TAP Grant is to improve accessibility to Waxhaw’s downtown through
pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and bicycle-friendly bike lanes.
These efforts, in addition to Waxhaw’s annual events, prosperous businesses, and amenities
such as David G. Barnes Children’s Park and the Duncan McDonald House, attributed to
Downtown Waxhaw’s Great Main Street distinction. Now, the Urban Land Institute (ULI)
report is helping our downtown reach new heights.
“Both the town and key downtown stakeholders have identified opportunities including the
need for more retail space, enhancement of civic space, and parking improvements, just to
name a few,” White explained. “To accommodate and benefit from the growth we expect to
see in our community, we must always be looking ahead.”
