Waxhaw Happenings December 2018 | Page 2

WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. There is a lot for Waxhaw to be proud of in 2018. From the events put on by our staff to our first civic education program, our town has prioritized creating a community where we can connect, learn, and engage with each other as residents and neighbors. This year, Waxhaw held its first ever Waxhaw 101. Over the course of eight weeks, participants learned about the day-to-day of our hard working staff, got to put names to faces of the people who keep our town running, and asked questions of them to broaden their understanding of what really goes on in town hall. If you’ve always wanted to know more about what we’re working on every day to ensure we preserve and advance our town, I encourage you to read more about Waxhaw 101 on pages 2-4 and consider applying. This year we incorporated summaries of each Board of Commissioners meeting written by Mayor Maher after each session to further improve our transparency. You can read the latest recap on page 7, and find a record of past recaps at waxhaw.com/civicalerts. Beyond information alone, we also enjoy sharing Waxhaw memories with our residents. You can find photographs of our holiday events this year on pages 5-6. Thank you for another great year in Waxhaw. We look forward to teaching and learning more with you so that our community will be even more connected in 2019. We wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
