MEET ELISA MACGOUN
Planning Technician
The Town Waxhaw would like to welcome Elisa
MacGoun as our new Planning Technician. Elisa
earned a Masters in Geography and Planning with
a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning
from Appalachian State University. While there, she
completed a Planning Internship for the Town of Beech
Mountain, NC where she worked in conjunction with the
Planning Director.
Elisa has been with the Waxhaw team for a little over
a month. She came into this role with aspirations to
utilize her in-depth knowledge of planning principals
and techniques. She has a strong desire to connect with
the community and help support efficient interaction
with town and county administration. With her planning
background, she has the ability to offer technical support
for the entire Planning Department, Town Hall, and our
community.
As Waxhaw’s Planning Technician, Elisa will have a
variety of responsibilities to fulfill daily. When asked
what a typical day in the life of a Planning Technician looks like, she said, “my day-to-
day duties consist of reviewing land plans, processing permits, doing advanced research
on towns and cities that have supportive information on how to better serve the Town
of Waxhaw, and assisting in the overall connectivity and interaction of the Planning
Department. My role is unique in that I can offer expertise from my Graduate Degree in
Planning to better help the Planning Department and Town.”
Elisa has enjoyed seeing the land and buildings being developed throughout the
community that she reviews plans for daily. Her future goals include updating the
Town’s Unified Development Ordinance, as well as updating the Comprehensive Plan.
Additionally, she will be hosting monthly Planning Board meetings.
Elisa would like the citizens of Waxhaw to know, “my role serves not only the Town Hall
Staff but the community as well. As a unique role composed of reviews and coordinated
efforts, I see and hear many things that may not otherwise reach the ears of higher
administration. I hope that over time, I can become a community liaison of sorts to
better connect this thriving town that is Waxhaw. Throughout my Planning education
and career, so far, I have valued community above all else.”
Welcome to the Town of Waxhaw, Elisa!
