WA X H AW ’ S V I S ION Waxhaw is a friendly, vibrant, prosperous town where history and creativity build an enduring, safe and healthy community for people of all ages to live, learn, work, play or grow a business. TOWN MANAGER’S MESSAGE North Carolina is No. 5 among America’s top states for business, according to CNBC’s First in Business Worldwide. The quality of Charlotte’s infrastructure has a profound effect on growth coming to Waxhaw and our surrounding communities. You may have seen, or heard about commercial developments coming to Waxhaw. Many of the projects in progress are development plans that were approved years ago. Projects around the nation and in our region were not completed due to the economic downturn from 2008. Cureton Town Center was one of those. In 2003, Cureton Town Center was approved as a mixed use retail center. It is zoned CU-C3 (Conditional Use-General Commercial). Recently, Dunkin Donuts and Jersey Mike’s announced that they would be coming to the center. You may have also questioned, “What’s happening at Prescot Village?” The commercial portion of Prescot along Hwy 16 was approved in 2007 as a Conditional Use Permit. Construction plans for a Sam’s Mart and Bed and Bark are undergoing administrative review in accordance with those plans. Roadway improvements are underway that were required by NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation) along NC 16. The roadway improvements are required to be completed prior to any businesses opening in the development. Commercial businesses like these aid in diversifying Waxhaw’s tax base, which helps fund community improvements and strengthen our infrastructure. We continue to seek ways to strengthen our infrastructure and our relationships with affiliated organizations to carry out Waxhaw’s vision. One of which, is the Town’s excellent working relationship with the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department. Although not operated by the Town of Waxhaw, the Waxhaw VFD works closely with the Town allowing us to be more responsive to our community’s needs.
