IMMERSIVE LEARNING REACHES HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOMS
Jacksonville University recently expanded its Immersive Learning Program beyond campus, partnering with Atlantic Coast High School to bring real-world healthcare simulation to more than 100 students. For the first time, high schoolers experienced how artificial intelligence, robotics and virtual reality are reshaping modern medicine.
Launched in 2022 under the direction of Amber Santos, JU’ s immersive program has grown rapidly— almost 400 % in utilization— across disciplines such as nursing, marine science, engineering, kinesiology, aviation and education. During this watershed visit, students engaged with AI-powered simulations to hone clinical judgment and decision-making skills. They explored diseased lungs in virtual reality, navigated coronary arteries, and responded to patient scenarios in a safe but high-stakes environment.
“ This hands-on experience with Jacksonville University is a game-changer for our students,” said Dr. Michael George, principal of Atlantic Coast High. He emphasized how such immersive exposure broadens students’ perspectives on both the capabilities of modern technology and the impact they might have in a healthcare career.
In an era when demand for healthcare professionals continues to rise, programs like this help shorten the divide between secondary education and higher-level training. By introducing students early to cutting-edge tools, Jacksonville University is laying the foundation for the next generation of health professionals, ensuring they are equipped not only with textbooks but also with experience in the immersive technologies defining their fields.
FUTURE. MADE. PROGRESS
Coming off a record-breaking year of fundraising, Jacksonville University’ s Future. Made. campaign has achieved its $ 175 million goal, powered by the generosity of alumni, families and friends who are investing in the future of our students and the strength of our University.
Since publicly launching in 2023, this comprehensive campaign has united Dolphins everywhere around a shared purpose— to shape a brighter tomorrow through innovation, collaboration and opportunity. The impact of this collective support is evident across campus: in new spaces designed for discovery, in enhanced academic programs that prepare students for the evolving world of work, and in scholarships that make a JU education accessible to deserving students.
Through Future. Made., Jacksonville University is advancing progress in key areas such as science, business, healthcare, and innovative technologies. Our students benefit from experiential and interdisciplinary learning that equips them to lead boldly, think critically, and solve realworld challenges.
