You’ ve worked in both academia and the corporate world— what’ s one thing each taught you?
In corporate, I learned to think strategically and execute with laser focus; in academia, I learned the importance of listening to different stakeholder groups and building consensus.
What’ s one moment in your career you’ re most proud of?
Delivering Walmart’ s healthier food strategy to provide access to nutritious food for all Americans. I was part of a dream team, and we all knew the work was more important than any one of us.
What book or author has influenced you most deeply?
Food Politics, by my now dear friend Marion Nestle. The book inspired my deep love for and expertise in food policy— and resulted in a lifelong friendship I deeply cherish.
What’ s a habit or practice that keeps you grounded?
Tuesday Night Table( family dinner) with the honors students in North Hall. There is nothing like tacos and our funny, intelligent, and kind students to keep me grounded.

What’ s your favorite way to spend a weekend in Jacksonville?
At home in sweatpants with my husband, visiting our local farmer’ s market, going for a long walk, and making dinner or baking.
What does a“ life-changing education” mean to you personally?
To me, a“ life-changing education” stretches thinking, opens doors, and gives students the confidence and capacity to build the future they imagine— and sometimes futures they don’ t even know are possible.
What’ s your personal motto or mantra?
I’ d rather fail than regret not trying.
When you reflect on your own college experience, what stands out most?
I finished my degree at a small school, where I was surrounded by professors and mentors who knew me personally and wanted me to succeed. Their genuine caring, honesty, and support influenced how I care for our students.
What’ s one piece of advice you’ d give to young people pursuing leadership roles?
If you could spend one day with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Julia Child. She changed American gastronomy and culinary arts, sparked a TV cooking revolution, was a famed cookbook author, and served in the Office of Strategic Services( now CIA) during World War II. I would love to cook with her and listen to her stories.
