EMBRACING CAMPUS- WIDE COLLABORATION
Those cross-collaborations extend beyond the Stein College as all of Jacksonville University ’ s colleges , schools and institutes focus on meeting demand for job-ready graduates in fields that are rapidly evolving . For the Stein College , that means leaning into the medical humanities alongside their colleagues at the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences . The medical humanities are an interdisciplinary medical field which includes the humanities , social sciences and the arts designed to improve practitioner decisionmaking , cultural sensitivity and ethical considerations . Put simply , it ’ s the human side of medicine . And it ’ s growing . As one example ,
the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that demand for recreational therapists , including art and music therapists , will grow 10 percent by 2030 .
“ Education in the medical humanities is an attractive credential for employers , and with our amazing Brooks College , with Dolphin Pointe and the Stein College , we have to connect the dots there ,” Dean Snyder said . “ Now that many insurance companies are allowing payment for arts therapies--the visual arts , or music therapy--the job prospects for our graduates are changing and we ’ re putting together a strong program for those fields .”
