ENJOY THE JOURNEY TO THE TOP

Some people have a clear vision for their life path . They find their passion early and resolve to pursue it . Others like to keep their options open , taking one or two detours along the way . I fall into the latter category .
As a student at Jacksonville University , I didn ’ t know exactly what path I would take , but I understood the importance of being open to opportunities and I was willing to work hard . JU gave me room to explore and grow . My professors , mentors , classmates , Alpha Delta Pi sisters , and Sporting Clays club teammates invested in me and encouraged me .
After graduating , I started out on a very traditional , secure career track working for several successful companies . Then , about a year ago , I was ready for a change and decided to invest in myself . I wanted to spend my days working on something I truly loved and was passionate about . I wanted to build something from the ground up to leave my mark on the world . So , I left the safety of a corporate position to start my own business , Opal Aesthetics , with friend and fellow JU alum Kori Frank ' 09 . It was a leap of faith and a little terrifying , but my family and friends — and my Dolphin family — have been there to support and encourage me every step of the way .
JU is such an important part of my story and the stories of so many successful Dolphins featured in this issue of WAVE Magazine . They are CEOs , surgeons , film score composers , lawmakers , TV hosts , small business owners , scientists , choreographers , diplomats , and future U . S . Olympians , to name a few . Many have reached remarkable heights of success in their careers , while our promising new graduates are just beginning their ascent . When I read their stories , I am filled with pride and gratitude . Not only is our Dolphin family full of incredible people , but we are all rooting for one another , because that ’ s what a family does .
I wouldn ’ t change anything about the path I took ; every step carried meaningful lessons that led me to where I am today . I hope the stories in this issue inspire you to press onward in your own pursuits with a renewed sense of purpose and hope . Whether your path is direct or winding , what ’ s most important is being fully engaged in each leg of the journey , remembering those who encouraged you along the way , and taking opportunities to do the same for others .
