Dr. Matthew
Corrigan Named
Dean of College of
Arts and Sciences
Dr. Matthew Corrigan joined the
Jacksonville University family in the fall
of 2019 as the new Dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences, where he is now
helping to enhance and strengthen
the humanities and the sciences — the
foundation of a JU education.
“Dr. Corrigan is a proven academic
leader, energetic faculty advocate,
and tireless mentor who can help
instill in all of our students the
critical thinking, communication
and problem-solving skills that
are necessary for lifelong success
no matter their field of study,” said
Provost Dr. Christine Sapienza.
Dr. Corrigan served as Professor
of Political Science and Public
Administration at the University of
North Florida since 1995 and was
Chair of the Department of Political
Science and Public Administration
from 2007 to 2018. He received
his Ph.D. in Political Science from
the University of Florida, and he’s

American and Southern politics and
the American presidency.
New Leader of
STEAM Initiatives
Selected: Dr. Murat
Tiryakioglu
Dr. Murat Tiryakioglu, a well-
respected engineer with expertise in
mechanical engineering, advanced
manufacturing and materials
innovation, joined the Jacksonville
University faculty in the summer
of 2019 as Executive Vice President
of STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Art and Math) Initiatives.
“I’m here to help give guidance. I am
more like an internal consultant,
an advisor on how to best educate
students in STEAM fields. We want
them to have multiple skills, be more
flexible, think in different ways,
be creative. We want them to see
opportunities for improvement, new
businesses, new products — to keep
thinking critically every day and keep
developing solutions. In turn, they can
have multiple careers, or they might
set up their own businesses and
become entrepreneurs,” said
Dr. Tiryakioglu.
Dr. Tiryakioglu is an engineering
education pioneer, transformational
academic leader, internationally
recognized researcher, and a
passionate advocate of service
learning to help community.
