About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water and only 3% of it is actually freshwater that is fit for human consumption, and did you know 60 percent of our total body weight is water, our body needs water to regulate the body temperature, normal body metabolism and some important functions including digestion and removal of waste from the body other than this, water is also needed for cooking, bathing, handwashing, and growing food but now a day’s water scarcity is considered a global issue and people all around the world struggling to get access to the adequate and clean water. There are millions of people all over the world who don’t have access to water, or, if they have access, that water is unable to be used. So, the United Nations recognizes the importance of addressing the global water crisis each year on World Water Day, March 22. According to the World economic forum and international Monetary fund report, water scarcity is considered as a prominent global issue, and it is hard to digest that Pakistan ranks third amongst countries facing water shortages, according to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report. According to the world economic forum. Around 2 billion people, or almost one-fifth of the world’s population, live in areas of scarcity. Around 700 million people in 43 countries suffer today from water scarcity. According to the UNESCO by 2025, 1.8 billion people are expected to be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world population could be under water stress conditions. Basically, they are two type of water scarcity. First one is physical water scarcity which is referred to a situation where natural water resources are unable to meet a region’s demand and the second one is economic water scarcity which is a result of poor water management resources, and our luck we are facing both of them They are list of prominent cause, that cause water scarcity, including overuse of water, pollution of water linked with poor sanitation system and different pollutant that pollute the water, land confliction, distance from reservoir, drought condition, and some region of world water usage is strictly is strictly control by those who are in power. The biggest problem that happens when you have water scarcity is that people are not able to get fresh and clean drinking water, Water scarcity is linked with hunger, like if there is no water that can be used in order to help water the crops, then you are going to have people that are going hungry. Animals will also die, which will result in a lack of meat as well, Water scarcity makes it difficult for people to get the education that they need or that they deserve. Why? Mainly, because those children are either too sick to go to school, if you don’t have clean water access, then you will be more likely to get diseases from the water that you do have, without access to clean water, there is no way to clean food, dishes or people. When people are not given access to proper sanitation, disease (which we talked about above) ends up becoming much more of an issue than it would have been otherwise. It also causes mental health issues, including depression and anxiety, all in all, people who are dealing with water scarcity are often stuck in poverty as well. These people are not able to get the resources that they need in order to be able to thrive, and instead are just barely surviving through these difficult times.
