Together we can make a difference! volunteer CORNER WCSPCA At the shelter, offsite or from home . . . . your help is vital to our success! Volunteering is a great way to help any cause, support an organization, and make a difference. It can also be a chance to meet new people and learn new things. It is a way to give your time and your talents to something that is important to you. Do you wonder how to get started? Ask yourself a few questions – why do you want to volunteer? What do you want to do? Do you want/need to build new skills? Do you want to make new friends? Do you want to share your unique gifts? The answers will help you decide where you should volunteer. Choose a place that has meaning for you. A place where you know your contribution will make a difference in your life. Look for something in your area. While there are opportunities to volunteer just about anywhere, most people find it easier to volunteer in their own community. This will allow you to learn and discover what volunteering is about. Start Small. Most folks who volunteer are already very busy so do not plan to volunteer 20 hours a week. Start with 1 or 2 hours per week, or 1 day per month. Get to Know other Volunteers in the Organization. The longer term volunteers are great sources of information. Most will be happy to serve as mentors and help you learn the ropes. Get Training. Most organizations have various training available to help you with your volunteering. Take advantage of each training opportunity that comes your way. Get Started. Just jump right in. Sometimes this is the only way to learn. Now you are thinking – “Just where should I volunteer?” The answer is closer than you may think.
