Amazon Adding $ 150 Million More to Fund for Affordable Housing
Amazon ’ s Housing Equity Fund will support another 1,700 affordable units with an additional $ 150 million in low-rate loans and grants across Puget Sound .
The December announcement brings Amazon ’ s Housing Equity Fund commitment in Puget Sound to $ 500 million , aiming to create or preserve 5,000 affordable units since the beginning of 2021 .
New Report Shows FedEx Support for Local Suppliers in Washington
A new economic impact report from FedEx shows the company spent nearly $ 143 million with local Washington suppliers in the 2022 fiscal year .
FedEx is also a major supporter of the nation ’ s economy overall , contributing 12 % of net economic output in the transportation and logistics sectors , the report shows . The company also contributed 0.3 % of net economic output for the country overall , “ a relatively large percentage for any single company given the $ 24 trillion value of the U . S . economy .”
FedEx employs 412,770 people in the U . S , and nearly 550,000 worldwide . The company has more than 5,000 facilities , 700 aircraft and 210,000 vehicles .
PNNL Earns High Marks and Financial Bonus for ‘ Field-leading Achievements ’
The Department of Energy has given high grades to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for its performance in 2022 , earning Battelle , which operates the lab , $ 12.13 million in incentive pay .
PNNL was commended in the evaluation for “ fieldleading achievements ” in basic energy sciences and praised for new ideas in climate science and carbon management . It also rated well in its energy and environment work . It earned an overall “ A ” grade for mission accomplishments ( quality and productivity of research and development ).
The Department of Energy highlighted its national leadership in electric grid modernization , energy storage and lightweight materials for vehicles .
Boeing Establishes New Student Success Center at WSU ’ s Engineering School
The Boeing Company has invested $ 5 million to create a new student success center at the Washington State University ’ s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture .
The new Boeing Center for Student Success will occupy an entire floor within the college ’ s Schweitzer Engineering Hall , which is under development . The facility will provide access to mentoring , tutoring , advising and career services to the college ’ s 4,600 students .
Boeing has invested nearly $ 30 million over the the last half century to advance various academic , research and service initiatives at WSU .
The company is also one of the leading employers of Voiland College graduates .
“ The impact of this generous commitment from Boeing is incalculable , accelerating the Voiland College ’ s ambitious plan to modernize its facilities to meet the current and future needs of WSU ’ s engineering and design students ,” WSU System President Kirk Schulz said .
