A record number of AWB members met with all 12 members of Washington ’ s congressional delegation or their top staffers . They also met with the Departments of Education , Agriculture and Labor . A meeting with U . S . Sen . Maria Cantwell also included embassy staff from Canada .
A joint reception with the Bellevue Chamber was held at the International Spy Museum . Former AWB Board Chair Tim Schauer presented an award to outgoing U . S . Rep . Jaime Herrera Beutler in recognition of her service to the voters of southwest Washington .
The week concluded with a trip to see the Seattle Kraken play the Washington Capitals .
AWB Institute Hosts Child Care Event for Legislators
Lawmakers from both parties and chambers received a content-rich welcome to the 2023 legislative session with a deep dive into child care issues .
The AWB Institute and Children ’ s Campaign Fund Action jointly presented a breakfast kick-off reception Jan . 10 at AWB ’ s office in Olympia for the Legislator Education and Action Project ( LEAP ).
Nicole Sohn and Luc Jasmin III , child care providers in Spokane , were among the attendees .

The keynote speakers were Dan Wuori of the Hunt Institute and Linda Smith of the Bipartisan Policy Center , who discussed how different states and Congress are finding ways to solve child care issues for families , employers and communities .
“ This is the single issue in Washington [ D . C .] that is still bipartisan ,” Smith told attendees . “ For years it was one side putting out ideas and hitting a blank wall . That ’ s not the case anymore .”
AWB and its members have been working with lawmakers in Olympia and Washington , D . C ., on child care and early childhood education issues for years .
