Grow Here Tells the Entire Employer Story

AWB’ s employer image campaign is telling the stories of the businesses that drive Washington’ s economy.
Bobbi Cussins
Employers and employees do more than grow the economy and jobs, they pioneer ways to combine environmentallyresponsible business practices with contributing to vibrant communities. That’ s the message Grow Here participants from Rite in the Rain, Schilling Cider and Nucor Steel Seattle shared in a panel presentation at AWB’ s annual Policy Summit last September.
“ We have 350 employees, that’ s 350 families, that are behind that business, that are part of that business. And, when something for that business becomes difficult, things for those families become difficult.”
— Oliver Lyles, safety manager, Nucor Steel Seattle
What’ s the entire story of your business? That may be the best question the Association of Washington Business asked members last year.
And it was the question on which AWB’ s multi-media and multi-year employer image campaign, Grow Here, was built.
The campaign featured Rite in the Rain, Tacoma’ s century-old manufacturer of weather-resistant paper products and writing implements; Schilling Cider, a craft cidery in Seattle; and Nucor Steel Seattle, a multi-national steel company and the state’ s largest recycler with roots in West Seattle that span more than 100 years.
The message the effort aimed to deliver is that employers are more than their bottom line— they contribute to their communities, support their employees and take proactive steps to preserve and protect the environment. How’ d we do? Three stars of Grow Here, Rite in the Rain’ s Product and Media Manager Jim Kopriva, Nucor Steel Seattle’ s Safety Manager Oliver Lyles and Schilling Cider’ s Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Nicole Ledford, joined a panel at AWB’ s Policy Summit Sept. 13-15 to give their report on the Grow Here campaign.
