“The release of the first Opportunity Score sets a baseline,”
Mullin added, “telling us how Washington has performed, what
advantages need to be protected, and where we must concentrate
efforts to make Washington a top 10 state.”
The Opportunity Score will be updated
quarterly with new data, making it possible to
easily track progress — or the lack thereof — in
each of the three categories.
“We expect to see improvement in the
Connect section as a result of the statewide
transportation package lawmakers approved
last session,” Johnson said. “But improvement
in the other categories — Achieve and Employ — is not a foregone
conclusion. That will only occur if employers, lawmakers and
community leaders all work together to make smart choices for
our state’s schools and employers. The Opportunity Score is a
great tool for measuring whether that happens. After all, we
know that what gets measured gets done.”
