washington business I hope that someone is elected that respects the institution, that can be strong and bipartisan, preferably non-partisan, and hold the dignity of this place like it should be upheld. There are seven contenders, at least, to fill your shoes this fall. What is the most important thing they should know about the office? About the seven people. Already one is talking about doing things for which they don’t have the authority to do. They would be totally abusing the authority of the office. If they want to do what that person wants to do, they should run for governor. And, already that is going to create rancor. Then they’re talking about a grand announcement to get endorsements saying, “I will not sign the budget if it doesn’t have X, Y, Z for teachers.” Well, that’s not why we sign the budget or bills. My name is on every bill out there and the reason for that is to say that it passed the process appropriately. But it’s not for veto power. T
