Telling the Employer Story

Last December, I stood in a control room behind a thick
layer of protective glass and watched as a fireball erupted on
the other side. Flames shot toward the window and a blast
of heat radiated through the glass, hinting at the power just
a few yards away.
It was a dramatic experience, but not a rare one. About
every 20 minutes or so, steel workers “drop a charge” inside
the Nucor Steel mill in West Seattle. They’ve been doing it
here since 1905, making the steel that supports many of our
state’s highways and landmark buildings.
I was there to see it because a camera crew was busy
