Amazon Provides $ 23 Million for Affordable Housing in Seattle
Amazon has donated $ 23 million to help build or preserve 500 new affordable housing units in Seattle .
The money comes from Amazon ’ s $ 2 billion Housing Equity Fund , which has invested $ 1.2 billion since being launched in January 2021 . That ’ s helped create or preserve more than 8,000 affordable homes across the Puget Sound region as well as Arlington , Virginia and Nashville , Tennessee .
Tukwila Students Win Third Straight National Solar Car Championship
A team of students from Raisbeck Aviation High School in Tukwila scorched the track at the Texas Motor Speedway in July on their way to a third straight national championship in the Solar Car Challenge .
The Raisbeck Green Energy Team ’ s student drivers and pit crew completed 1,314 miles ( 876 laps ) over the course of four days , smashing the previous record ( which they set in 2019 !) by more than 200 laps .
The team has considerable support from Washington employers , and trains on the PACCAR track outside of Mount Vernon .
AWB met the team during the 2021 Manufacturing Week Tour . At that time they were two-time national champions , for which we honored them at that fall ’ s Evening of Excellence . They were also the subject of a profile in the Spring edition of Washington Business .
Spokane ’ s DH Buys Seattle Marketing Firm , Creating ‘ Powerhouse State Agency ’
DH , a marketing , advertising , branding and public relations agency based in Spokane , has purchased Seattle-based Nyhus Communications .
Michelle Hege , CEO of DH , is a member of AWB ’ s board .
Nyhus Communications is a 30-year-old public affairs , advocacy and marketing agency . Hege said the teams share a passion for equity-centered communications , research-based campaigns , advocacy and communications strategy that makes a difference for clients .
“ Together , we are a true statewide agency with deep relationships in every corner of Washington , and beyond ,” she said .
Delta Announces Major Purchase of 737 Max 10 Jets
Delta Air Lines announced an order of 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets at the Farnborough International Air Show in July .
The 100-plane order comes with a list price of $ 13.5 billion before any discounts . Delta also has an option to buy 30 more .
Delta said a major selling point is the aircraft ’ s common cockpit design that it shares with earlier 737 models . The company also noted that the 737 MAX 10 will be 20-30 % more fuel efficient than the retiring Delta planes it will replace .
