This meeting is open to AWB members statewide, representing small, medium and large businesses. Legislators are invited to participate in a series of issue panels. At noon, we offer a featured luncheon speaker and the Better Workplace Awards. These awards celebrate businesses for their innovative benefit and compensation programs, job training and advancement initiatives and commitments to workplace safety. The day will conclude with a reception for AWB members, legislators and elected officials. The next morning members will gather for a breakfast and members “day on the hill,” including appointments with their state representatives. During Lobby Day, visit your legislators to explain how your business is affected by decisions that are made in Olympia and encourage them to promote policies that create a positive economic climate for Washington employers and their employees. New Government Affairs Director at AWB In November, AWB welcomed Matt Canedy to its Government Affairs team. Canedy will oversee health care and education policy issues for the association. Canedy most recently worked for the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C. “Matt brings a wealth of experience to the Government Affairs team,” said AWB vice president of government affairs, Gary Chandler. “His knowledge of state and federal health care issues will be especially beneficial to AWB members as the state adopts federal health care reforms.” AWB is Washington state’s chamber of commerce and one of just four state chambers in the country to be “accredited with distinction” by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
