3. Clan Hierachy
Kits
The youngest members of the Clan are the Kits or every cat under the age of 6 moons, and live in the nursery with their mothers. They tend to be very mischievous, and also tend to unintentionally bother both the Warriors and Elders. Although the older cats tend to be annoyed, the Elders are the second most protective of the Kits besides their parents, and also amuse the Kits with stories of the Clans long ago, so that these Kits may one day pass them on to their own Kits. During battles, if there is an attack on the camp with no warning, while the Elders can fight, [as they used to be Warriors] they are the ones that shelter with the Kits in the Nursery, as it is the sturdiest den, and keep the Kits safe, leaving it to the Queens to defend the nursery or stand guard.
The Kits are the first priority of the Clan because they are the future. There are 2 Warriors Code Rules about this:
Code 3. Elders, Queens, and Kits must be fed before Apprentices and Warriors. Unless they have permission, Apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the Elders. If any Warriors or Apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the Elders, Queens, and Kits are eating.
Code 12. No Warriors can neglect a Kit in pain or danger, even if the Kit is from a different Clan.
This is so that besides the disease and hunger, there is a high chance that Kits survive to become Warriors. Like all members of the Clan, Kits have a special name to signify their rank in the Clan-their name must end with the -Kit. While the parents can choose the first name, the end of the names are always -Kit. For example, Dovekit, Lionkit, Ivykit, and Sandkit. Kits spend their early days inside of Camp; hence so that they can be watched over by the Queens and Warriors.
