Katahdin
Appalachian Trail, it marks the northern terminus of a 2,000-mile journey.
There are several trails to the summit, each offering a different experience: Abol Trail: the shortest route, but steep and strenuous Hunt Trail: the only official AT route to the summit, featuring exposed ridges and iconic views Knife Edge: a narrow, dramatic ridge connecting peaks that is unforgettable but not for those afraid of heights Helon Taylor + Knife Edge Loop: a popular and challenging trail for experienced hikers No matter which route you choose, all Katahdin trails are physically demanding and should be considered full-day hikes lasting 8-12 hours. Summitting Katahdin is not a casual hike. It’ s best suited for those with solid fitness and hiking experience.
Advanced preparation, both physical and logistical, is required. Access to Katahdin is carefully managed to protect visitors and the landscape. Parking reservations are required in advance.
