IN THE HEART OF THE STATE OF MAINE lies The Maine Highlands, a landscape filled with a collection of gems— Maine’ s highest peak, Katahdin; longest river, the Penobscot; largest lake, Moosehead; and a National Monument, Katahdin Woods and Waters.
The Maine Highlands is home to hundreds of thousands of acres of undeveloped wilderness. There are countless mountain peaks, hundreds of waterfalls, and thousands of miles of trails to explore on foot, bicycle, skis, snowmobile, or ATV.
Our landscape is dotted with vibrant small towns and Maine’ s third largest city, Bangor. Concerts, museums, galleries, local food, and craft beer abound. Annual festivals celebrate everything from town histories to whoopie pies, seaplanes to ice fishing.
The Maine Highlands invites you to slow down, unplug, and leave the beaten path for a visit you won’ t soon forget.
