MOUNTAIN BIKING The Maine Highlands boasts an extensive network of trails that wind through dense forests, along riverbanks, and over challenging terrain. Popular spots include the Penobscot River Trails and the New England Outdoor Center trail system in Millinocket and the Moosehead Outdoor Alliance Trails in Greenville. These trails offer well-maintained paths varying degrees of difficulty. Whether you’ re a seasoned rider seeking technical challenges or a beginner looking for a scenic ride, you’ ll find trails that cater to your skill level.
FAT BIKING When the snow falls, the adventure doesn’ t stop. Fat biking has become a popular winter activity in The Maine Highlands, allowing riders to explore snowy landscapes on bikes with oversized tires. Moosehead Lake and the Katahdin region are prime locations for fat biking, with groomed winter trails providing a unique way to experience Maine’ s winter wonderland.
ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE( ATV)
Maine has 6,000 miles— and growing— of designated ATV trails with the longest interconnected ATV trail system in the country. Interconnected Trail System( ITS) trails may be used for ATVs in the warmer months and snowmobiles in the winter.
Several outfitters between the
Moosehead, Lincoln, and Katahdin regions offer ATV rentals and guided tours.
SCENIC DRIVES
Cruise along one of The Maine Highland’ s scenic byways in your car on on your motorcycle. Two lane roads wind through the countryside, passing through quaint towns and beautiful forests. Fall is our favorite time for a drive, as the foliage puts on quite a show!
KATAHDIN WOODS & WATERS SCENIC BYWAY 89 miles from Baxter State Park along the East Branch of the Penobscot River. This drive reveals views of Katahdin and the Appalachian Mountains, working forests, pastoral farms, and beautiful natural areas.
MOOSEHEAD LAKE SCENIC BYWAY 49 miles from Greenville to Jackman Views of Mount Kineo and Moosehead Lake make for an unforgettable experience.
