preservation ’ s small victories
By w . allen cochran
As a preservationist , I appreciate much of American architecture . When I consider that , images of Annapolis , town houses in San Francisco and brown stones in New York come to mind . They are all beautiful . But I love , and I mean love , early American architecture , and specifically early American Quaker architecture . I find the pragmatic approach , the materials , the methods , and simple details all very alluring and familiar . And I suppose that makes sense . I was raised in the old stone Meeting house in Lincoln , and my paternal ancestors were all Quaker . It ’ s part of my DNA .
