Welcome to the second issue of WANDER . The change of seasons brings new life , more outdoor adventures , and time to shake off winter and reconnect with all that makes Loudoun County the treasure it is . This issue is filled with articles brimming with Loudoun fascinating history , its enduring small towns , hiking and biking trails that get you into beautiful back country , the story of a 235-year old “ witness tree ,“ myriad ways to enjoy horse country , agribusiness profiles , and more . We are so grateful to the passionate writers , photographers , WANDER ’ s 70- plus distribution locations and all of our stakeholder advertisers who make this publication possible .
It is our hope with WANDER that the more people appreciate what rural Loudoun has to offer , the more they will see the importance of protecting and preserving its rural character , culture , history and agricultural lands now and for generations to come .

ON THE COVER : Sunset view from Loyalty Road between Waterford and Taylorstown by Roger Lancaster . A Waterford , Virginia based photographer , Roger concentrates primarily on landscapes , but also delves into other genres including still life , birds and wildlife , and the out-of-the ordinary . His work has received numerous awards , including the Best of Loudoun photo for two years running at the Waterford Fair . Many of his images have appeared in both popular and photographic journals and can be found in private collections .
