Unfortunately , these barns are rapidly disappearing . As the demand for new developments in the area grows , barns once kept in families for generations are being sold and torn down .
“ There are a couple of barns that I took pictures of that aren ’ t there anymore ,” he said .“ They were actually torn down within a week or so after I took the picture .”
Lancaster hopes that this project will help establish a photographic record of part of Loudoun ’ s long history .
When Lancaster isn ’ t shooting barns , his favorite place to take pictures is on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park with his granddaughters .
