Travelling Loudoun ’ s many miles of rural roads through spectacular rolling countryside you cross numerous streams — and as you do you are experiencing Loudoun ’ s history , too . No , Loudoun doesn ’ t have any wooden covered bridges , but we do have an amazing array of interesting and historic bridges — some built in the earliest years of the Republic . Many of these old bridges date back to when horses , mules and oxen pulled wagons loaded with farm produce and supplies to market . Others were erected in the very earliest time of motor vehicles . They represent evidence of our past efforts to support commerce and movement and our transportation solutions over the centuries of our history — and they still safely carry today ’ s traffic . Following are stories on four of our most noteworthy .
