Welcome to the premier issue of WANDER magazine ! We hope you enjoy it . We are so grateful to the writers and photographers who contributed their time and passions to tell stories in words and images of the beauty and timeless rural character of western Loudoun County .
How did this publication come to be ? A little over two years ago we moved to Maryland from nearly two decades in the high desert of Arizona . Landing on the edge of Montgomery County ’ s 93,000-acre Agricultural Reserve , we started exploring the beautiful farms and forests around us . Smitten with our new life in the country , we became curious to learn more about the Reserve , a national model of farmland preservation . Soon after , and with the help and encouragement of some its key farmland stakeholders , we decided to launch PLENTY magazine in 2019 .
Last year PLENTY found its way into the hands of two longtime Loudoun farm owners and rural land stakeholders . They approached us to consider publishing a Loudoun-centric magazine with a similar intention and purpose . After several months of discussions , a pandemic pause , and much encouragement and positive feedback we decided to go for it .
It is our hope with WANDER that the more people appreciate what rural Loudoun has to offer , the more they will see the importance of protecting and preserving its charming character , culture , history and agricultural lands now and for generations to come .
