Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold was on hand and delivered a speech in honor of the fallen officer with his family looking on .
“ Officer Dustin James proudly wore the badge ,” Rumbold said . “ His significant and enduring contributions to Walden reflected the highest degree of service and will now forever be memorialized with this street naming .”

The dedication was organized by retired state trooper and current Walden trustee John Ramos . “ I spoke to my village board colleagues and said I think this is something we should do ,” Ramos said . “ I didn ’ t want his family to think we forgot about Dustin , and now with this sign his memory will live forever .”
Ramos continued , “ Dustin loved the kids so this location in the park is a very fitting spot to memorialize him .”
