AYD For the sixth time since July, representatives of the Walden Humane Society (WHS) were in attendance last Wednesday at Wooster Grove Park in Walden for the weekly concert in the park. Over that time, $650 has been raised through donations for the shelter, and three dogs, who were in attendance at one of the four shows in which WHS brought animals have been adopted this summer, per an email by Rosanne Magrane, of WHS. “We have attended 6 concerts by invite this season,” Magrane said. “At four of them we brought dogs with us.” In addition to the $650 raised, bags of dog food and other such items have been TRACEY CARVEL donated, and the WALDEN HUMANE village of Walden website has also posted notifications when WHS was to be in attendance at an upcoming concert. Fifty to seventy-five people appeared to be on hand on a typical night, weather depending, per Magrane. Wednesday featured donated hot dogs, chips and drinks from Hannaford Supermarket, with local girl scouts walking around and hand delivering the food and drinks to attendees. Being on the heels of the tragic flooding in Texas, WHS, like other Humane Societies throughout the country has taken a large influx of displaced shelter animals. As of Saturday, a total of 10 animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey, seven dogs and three cats, have been taken in by WHS. “We are anticipating more animals,” WHS member Tracey Carvel said. “In total we are expecting 13 new animals this week, but we are unsure of the breakdown.” Brother Wolf, a logistics coordination partner of many humane society branches throughout the country has played a significant role in ensuring the arrival of the animals to Walden from their displaced homes. Already two animals from Texas have found permanent homes. Interested in adopting or volunteering? Visit waldenhumane.org, or call (845) 778-5115 for more information.
