Walden grant

Continued from page 1
90th birthday , and the Millspaugh family donated money to make some initial improvements to the public space . “ We ’ ve had these plans for a long time to develop that area ,” Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold said . “ When we decided to dedicate it to Mickey Millspaugh , his family graciously put a dock in , did some updates to that area . But the plans were much more substantial . Thankfully Senator Larkin was able to secure that funding so that we can complete that project . Now we can bring those plans to life .”
The village formulated the plan thanks to a state grant from the Hudson River Valley Greenway program , and the design calls for a park that will cater to hikers , boaters and families . “ The dock will be more substantial , there ’ ll be some shrubbery added , so it will look more like a park area ,” Rumbold said . “ It will be very accessible for people . Right now people fish from the dock we have there , but now boating and kayaking can be more prominent in that area . Once we have landscaping and the cleaning out of the wooded area , there may be a picnic area there .”
The mayor was effusive in her praise of Larkin for his work in securing the state funding for the ambitious project . “ We ’ ve been in contact with the Senator ’ s office because he does ask us what kind of projects we ’ re looking at ,” Rumbold said . “ We keep him up to date so he knew we had done the planning . He ’ s been trying to secure these funds for us and we ’ re so grateful that he was able to get that money for us . He ’ s always loved that area in the village and now we can really make that a focal point for the people of the village .”
