Kiawanis Club International , ( KCI ) formally welcomed a new member into its ranks as the Maybrook Club was awarded its charter at a ceremony at the Senior Center on Sept . 28 .

The ceremony was attended by not only the officers and members of the newly formed Maybrook club , but by other area clubs , Mayor Dennis Leahy , Lt . Governor of the Hudson River West division James Burtis and Dave Morris who was on hand to help award the charter in place of New York District Governor Candace Consaro who was unable to attend .

The newly minted club officially charted with 17 members including officers Guy Cusumano , president , Tina Johnson , VP , Kim Miyoshi , Secretary and Denise Mathelier as treasurer .

“ I have witnessed first hand how Kiwanis can change the conversation and direction of a community ,” Jim Burtis said . “ I commend these new members for taking the initiative to start a brand-new club here in Maybrook .”

Meetings for the Maybrook club are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p . m . at the Maybrook Senior Center on Schipps Lane .

The presentation featured light refreshments , raffles , a tricky tray and of course the presentation of the Charter .

Morris and Burtis said as they shared the stage during the presentation . “ After many calls throughout Orange County we ended up talking to Dennis who said he was in right away and got us a list of members and a check .”

The Maybrook club will have its first event as a formal club , a Spaghetti Dinner

raising funds for a small boy named Luke who suffers from a rare genetic mutation . The dinner will be held on Sunday October 28 from 3-7 p . m . at the senior center .
