Fair-Rite unveils new training center

By LAURA FITZGERALD lfitz @ tcnewspapers . com

Fair-Rite Products Corporation unveiled a new training center last Friday in Wallkill , enhancing employee learning .

“ This is our way to show them we ’ re giving back and we ’ re going to learn because when we learn we ’ re going to be more successful ,” Director of Facilities / Maintenance and Security Darren Parker said .
Employees strode into the center after President Carole Parker snipped the ribbon on the barn doors . The 2,115-square-foot structure resembles a ski lodge plunked in the middle of an industrial warehouse .
The inside is large and airy , designed to be adaptable to whatever needs it may be required to fill .
“ You can use it for anything you want ,” Darren Parker said .
The center features surround-sound stereo speakers , LED lighting , two air conditioning / heat systems , an automated mechanical partition with soundproofing , a portable stage , six flat-screen TVs , a marble epoxy floor , custom-built barn doors , backup generators and portable tables and chairs .
From the lighting to climate control , Darren Parker said the center was designed to be comfortable , so employees can focus on learning new processes and materials .
“ A training room is more than four walls and a roof . It is a place where we , as whole , can learn and be innovative and grow more processes ,” Darren Parker said .
Fair-Rite hasn ’ t had a training room for more than ten years , Carole Parker said , requiring the company to rent spaces for luncheons and training .
Carole Parker said Fair-Rite moved its main warehouse to their plant in Illinois , leaving a warehouse in Wallkill vacant . So , the company decided to make the training center , constructing it in just under eight months with the help of Fair- Rite ’ s facilities team .
Fair-Rite Kiln Leader Mike Jones said he was excited that the company was investing in its future with the center .
“ I can feel the enthusiasm we have for this new training center ,” Jones said .
Carole Parker said the company might open the training center to local community organizations and non-profits for events .
The training center was dedicated to

the company ’ s founder , Richard George Parker , also Carole ’ s husband and Darren , Rachael and Kimberlee ’ s father . Parker founded the company in Wallkill in 1952 .
“ We know for a fact that mom ’ s husband , our father , he would be very proud to see that we had dedicated such a beautiful space to give to them to continue what he started ,” Darren Parker said . “ So , to us it ’ s heartfelt ; it ’ s important .”
The training room is being unveiled as Fair-Rite passes its International Automotive Taskforce ( IATF ) 16949 , an automotive standard created in 2016 that suppliers must obtain to be able to sell to automotive customers .
While Fair-Rite has been certified in an automotive standard since 1996 , they received their certification in the new IATF 16949 standard on Sept . 3 . Vice President Rachael Leinen said the new standard focuses on risk management .
“ There ’ s a lot of risks now in the world that companies wanna make sure that their supplier isn ’ t going to leave them hanging if something happens ,” Leinen said .
Fair-Rite is also in the process of implementing the Enterprise Relationship Program ( ERP ), which will manage all operations , from production to shipping and payment .
The ERP and IATF are both huge undertakings , requiring countless hours of training that will be conducted in the center .
“ We knew that we were gonna have to purchase this very costly programming and now we have to teach it to everybody ,” Darren Parker said .
Carole Parker said IATF standard speaks to the quality of the company . Suppliers know Fair-Rite provides quality services and products because they are being held to an independent standard .
“ One of the brandings of us is quality ,”
