Mountain View Church offers thanks
By GARY M. AYD
M
ountain View Church in Pine Bush
served up its seventh annual free
Thanksgiving dinner for the local
community Saturday at the church hall
off Maple Avenue.
The ministry served an estimated 150
dinners in just two hours complete with
traditional staples like turkey, stuffing,
green beans and mashed potatoes. While
the total volume of food required to pull
this off was unclear, words like “tons,”
“massive” and “huge” were used to
describe the amount.
Volunteers we spoke to estimated that
this year’s turnout was around average
bringing the total estimated meals served
over the seven-year history of the ministry to somewhere between 700-1050.
“This dinner is a church mission in
community outreach,” volunteer and
member Christine Griffin said. “It’s an
opportunity to help those in need have a
dinner and enjoy fellowship.”
The event was put on by a dozen or
more church volunteers like Griffin, as
well as 20 Cub Scouts from Pine Bush
Pack 41 for whom MVC is a charter organization and pack sponsor.
“This is the one event every year where
the kids can really get involved,” Pack 41
Scouts from Pine Bush pack41 were among the volunteers at Saturday’s Thanksgiving meal
at Mountain View United methodist Church in Pine Bush.
third-year Cubmaster Erwin Benz said.
“It is an opportunity to help families in
need, and being able to provide a meal
