CALL ME, MAYBE
Once upon a time there were public pay phones
and there were even little booths to give you privacy
while you made your call—Superman used them often.
Eventually, however, they gave way to the cell phone.
The Montgomery Montessori School wants to reclaim
an open phone booth owned by the village (that many
may not even know exists), converting it into a mini art
gallery.
The booth is located between the bank parking lot and
sidewalk and the school would modify the existing booth
to add plexi-glass or tempered glass with a lock, and
change the sign from “Phone” to “Art.”
“It’ll fix up an eyesore,” said Brescia, adding that he
thought it was a great idea.
The board granted approval to the school for the project, stipulating only that the sign look historic and that
DPW Superintendent Nelson verify with DOT that the
project was ok.
At the same time, the village is dealing with an
unwanted wealth of phone books. Five separate companies are reportedly delivering them to properties in the
village, including homes that don’t want them at all and
other homes that are vacant.
Brescia stated that the village would look into different options to address the issue, from citing the
companies with littering to setting up an opt-out list of
residents.
