Maybrook signs agreement
with VC school district
By RACHEL COLEMAN
The village of Maybrook approved
an inter-municipal agreement with the
Valley Central School District on Monday,
addressing the use of village and school
district property.
Per the agreement, the school district
will give a credit of $1,500 for their use of
the village ballfields, which will be put
toward costs incurred by the village for
use of the elementary school building for
various programs.
“This is a great thing,” said Village
Trustee James Barnett, adding that the
mayor “really worked hard on this.”
In September, Mayor Dennis Leahy
approached the new school superintendent, John Xanthis, about working out
an agreement. The village was paying
for the use of the school building and

Leahy noted that if there are any
problems with the contract, the board can

current school year.
In other business, it was noted that the
removal of asbestos at 401 Tower Avenue
started earlier that day and will be ongoing for about two weeks. The building is
scheduled to be demolished following the
removal, possibly by Dec. 1.
The board also decided to table their
response to the Montgomery Town Board
regarding a letter of recommendation for
the Crestwood project until they can look
into the proposal. The project entails a
gas storage facility which needs changes to the town’s zoning in order for it to
move forward.
Residents were reminded that leaf
pickup has started in the village and
leaves must be bagged in biodegradable
bags that are available for free at the government center or the DPW garage.
The village board voted to take Police
Officer Robert Montanaro off probationary status and Police Chief Butch Amthor
reported that Officer McKinstrie made an
