State Senator Bill Larkin joined Town of Montgomery officials last week to present a check
for Town Hall renovations.
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, Cornwall-
On-Hudson) was joined Friday by Town
of Montgomery Supervisor Mike Hayes,
council members, police officers and other
local officials as he presented a check for
$150,000 to be used towards Town Hall
renovations. The check presentation took
place at Town Hall in Montgomery.
“Senator Larkin has been delivering
for the Town of Montgomery for decades
and he has come through again in a big
way,” said Montgomery Supervisor Mike
Hayes. “This grant will help us to complete
a vital infrastructure project that has
been put off for too many years due to
a lack of available funds. Infrastructure
improvements are expensive and this
grant will allow us to increase our
efficiency without overburdening our
local taxpayers.”
“It is my honor to provide this grant
to the Town of Montgomery,” said Larkin.
“Local infrastructure projects such as this
one are not often on the public’s radar but
are vital to our communities. Working
with leaders of our local municipalities is
one of the most important aspects of my
job as a State Senator. I look forward to
continuing our work together on behalf
of residents of the greater Montgomery
community.”
This grant will be used to rehabilitate
Town Hall, which currently houses all
Town of Montgomery operations, along
with the court and police department.
The funds will be used to repair severe
structural issues with the existing
building, as well as retrofitting certain
areas to increase productivity and
efficiency.
This grant is through the State and
Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) and
will be administered by the Dormitory
Authority of the State of New York
(DASNY).
Town sets hearing for solar law
With all of their revisions now made,
the Montgomery Town Board is ready
for public input on their proposed local
law regulating solar energy equipment
systems.
During their regular meeting last
week, the board voted to set a public
hearing for June 8.
While harnessing solar energy is a
growing field, Supervisor Mike Hayes
said there is only one project before the
town that would be affected. He explained
that the applicant is not too far along
in the planning process and has been
involved in the development of the local
law.
The local law will cover the
“installation and operation of all small-
scale and utility-sca le solar energy
equipment systems.”
In other business, the town board voted
to hire one part-time court attendant and
one police officer.
